APIL provides a kitemark of competence and specialist expertise for solicitors and barristers dealing with personal injury claims. The criteria and scheme are monitored by an independent academic quality council.  

There are different levels of accreditation which APIL lawyers can achieve depending on their expertise or amount of experience. All accredited APIL lawyers have at least five years' experience of handling personal injury claims. Many have specialist knowledge in particular fields such as medical injury.
