NI Court error showed creditor in winding-up list
The Northern Ireland Court service has issued an apology to Cemex (NI) Ltd after it mistakenly listed the company as being the subject of a winding-up petition. Cemex was in fact a creditor which had filed a petition against another company in an attempt to recover a debt from it.
The online court list was published on 17th November, and the Courts Service subsequently issued a statement saying that Cemex (NI) Ltd was incorrectly shown on the list as "a result of an administrative error", and that they were in fact the petitioner. They also apologised to the Mexican-owned cement suppliers "for any embarrassment this may have caused."
Companies engaged in a debt recovery process with one of its customers will often request a petition for winding up as a last resort to try to collect their debt. If granted, the petition will result in the firm being put out of business.
