£75k compensation payout for fall in cafe

An unnamed pensioner who tripped on a door-mat at the entrance of a cafe in Swindon has been awarded £75,000 in compensation.

The woman knocked over several tables as she fell to the floor, and broke one shoulder and dislocated the other, as well as seriously injuring her knee. She spent two and a half weeks in hospital and says that she still has difficulty climbing stairs and carrying out other normal tasks.

Her solicitors argued that the new mat that had been put at the doorway to the cafe was "not of the right type" and the cafe admitted liability for the accident. Compensation in the sum of £75,000 was awarded to the pensioner.
